Shoulder stretching to Warm Up or Cool Down

Stretching shoulder exerciseIn this exercise the shoulder is gently stretched to improve flexibility and prevent injury such as over-stretching.

This may seem a simple exercise to do, but you need to concentrate on doing it properly for maximum benefit.

 

When shoulder stretching

  • stand with your feet apart, and bring one arm across your chest.
  • keep your shoulders as straight as you can, and minimise twisting at the waist.
  • keep your stretched arm straight, and your supporting arm must cross above the elbow.
  • repeat the exercise for both arms.
  • as with other stretching exercises, do not bounce when stretching your shoulder.
