The specific test is to do one repetition max on the bench press. In this, the subject lies on a bench and lifts the heaviest possible weight that they can only do once. This test will give a good indication of upper body strength.

Advantages and Disadvantages of the Bench Press Test for Strength

This test is a simple maximal test that can be carried out quickly, and, the equipment for the test it easily available in a gym. It will only give a maximum reading for the muscles used in the bench press. Care must be taken when using weights and gym equipment.
